Light Clams is an interactive investigation in sound activated swarm behaviour. The clams themselves consist of a plastic shell, a solenoid actuator, a custom PCB and a 3D printed base. The swarm is powered by a battery and even though they share the same wires for power, no electronic data is being exchanged between the units.

The clams has a built in sound sensor which is used to determine when the individual unit will contract it's shell. When a sound, possible made by a person, exceeds a certain volume the clam will contact. This creates another sound loud enough for the next clam to activate, thus creating an escalating domino-effect of swarm like behaviour propagating with the speed of sound.
